Author's Musings

Meet Deon - Doctor by training, storyteller by obsession — crafting thrillers that won’t let you sleep.

Deon Heyns was born and raised in South Africa, where he studied medicine before embarking on a career that would take him across three continents. After marrying, he lived and worked in England and New Zealand before settling in Australia, which has been home for the past 18 years.

For 13 years, Deon practised medicine in small rural and outback communities, where he encountered the full spectrum of human nature—from courage and resilience to vulnerability, fear and extraordinary compassion. He describes those years as enriching, confronting, challenging, occasionally heartbreaking, and ultimately the most rewarding of his medical career.

Now based in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Deon continues to work as a general practitioner while pursuing his lifelong passion for writing psychological thrillers. Fascinated by what motivates people and the hidden forces that shape their decisions, he draws on a lifetime of listening to stories to create suspenseful novels with complex, believable characters.

When he isn't caring for patients or writing, Deon enjoys travelling, running, cycling and exploring architecture, finding inspiration for his stories in the people and places he encounters around the world.
